The Swiss Society for the Common Good (SSCG) donated the Rütli to the Swiss Confederation in 1860 and has managed the “cradle of the Confederation” ever since. The SSCG has organised the national celebration on the Rütli meadow on 1 August since 1891. The programme for the event includes celebratory speeches and a varied programme and ends with the singing of the Swiss national anthem. Since 2011, the SSCG has invited a nationally relevant partner organisation to jointly shape the federal celebration.
The celebration is open to the public and you can secure a free ticket from June onwards. The whole day is framed with music, food and performances, and there is a very attractive view from the Rütli meadow across Lake Lucerne.
