NGOs successfully ward off attack from political opponents
On 2 December, the SSCG sent an open letter to all members of the National Council. The SSCG was deeply concerned about the possible restriction of diversity of opinion in Swiss civil society and reiterated the importance of NGOs’ work in Switzerland and their need to be involved in political issues.
The letter and the SSCG’s media work made many NGOs aware of the motion. Several civil society organizations, including the Swiss Officers’ Association and Pro Senectute, approached members of the National Council and helped ensure that the legislation proposed by Ruedi Noser, a member of the Zurich FDP Council of States, failed.
