Swiss Federal Day on the Rütli Celebrating in times of Corona

In the Corona Year, events with more than 1000 guests are not allowed – even on the Swiss Federal Day and even on the Rütli meadow. The President of the Swiss Confederation, Simonetta Sommaruga, will address a message from the Rütli meadow on the Swiss Federal Day.

On the First of August 2020, the Swiss Society for Common Good (SSCG) wanted to organise the Swiss Federal Day on the Rütli meadow together with the Federal Association of Swiss Wrestling and more than 2’000 guests. However, due to the corona virus, no events with more than 1,000 people are permitted in Switzerland until the end of August. The SSCG will therefore organise the celebration in a different setting.

On the Swiss Federal Day, the President of the Swiss Confederation, Simonetta Sommaruga, will take the opportunity to send a message from the Rütli to the Swiss people. Simonetta Sommaruga will receive a number of persons from all 26 Swiss cantons who have made a special effort during the Corona pandemic in hospitals, pharmacies, supermarkets, waste disposal or neighbourhood assistance. A music formation of the Swiss Army will accompany the singing of the Swiss national anthem. MISS HELVETIA Barbara Klossner will delight the guests with yodelling and Schwyzerörgeli. Lisa Stoll will play the alphorn. The ceremony will be moderated by Maria Victoria Haas.
